Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Training

Child abuse and neglect are a serious concern and the University must provide an environment that is safe and protects children on University premises or activities in programs conducted by the University.

UCLA’s Insurance & Risk Management (IRM) Office communicates the availability of training opportunities for Mandated Reporters and others involved in programs with minors and has partnered with Praesidium Services to provide an onsite training workshop at the UCLA Faculty Center regarding best practices in abuse risk management and best practices in screening. The objective of the training is to protect minors by either preventing child abuse before it occurs or by ensuring its earliest possible detection.

There are two sessions covering general abuse and prevention and one session dedicated to screening and selection for managers involved in the hiring process. The general session covers how to minimize the threat of child abuse and to respond promptly and effectively should abuse be observed, suspected, or disclosed. The screening and selection session covers best practices for the interview and reference process.
